Taking your walks vertical is a quick way to boost the intensity

With temps in the upper 50s and the sun shining brightly, I couldn’t wait to get out for a nice long walk. I was going to take advantage of the good weather (forecast for the next few days doesn’t look so good) to do a kick-butt walking workout! The past few days my walks had been more moderate. The more walking routes you have the more likely you’ll be to walk!

What comes to mind when you think of taking a walk? Probably strolling around your neighborhood or development. Or maybe walking in a nearby park or on a local trail. Double-Duty Walk

Usually I walk to stay fit, but today I walked for transportation—to get from point A (my daughter’s school) to point B (the store).

I’m all for making a walk do double duty–a good workout and a way to get an errand done. Just about everyone can walk a mile, and according to the the League of American Bicyclists, about 30% of all trips we make are one mile or less. Unfortunately, most of those trips are made by car–and I’m just as guilty as most. Read more
